Day 7 in Phoenix 108 miles

Today Al, His son Carl, his wife Jessica and I went to Wickenburg AZ.
The great "snake hunt" is on.
Along the way we saw:
Yep... You guessed it... Desert

We did eventually make it to Wickenburg.
I took some sample photos of the signs, a statue and stores
This is the plaque at the foot of this statue

The local "Feed Store" / Restaurant
This one is for you Bob.
This one is for my wife Sandi

Al and I posed for a photo but he neglected to tell me NOT to back into the cactus that was behind me.
After jumping around for a minute I finally settled down for the photo.

Then. It was time for snake hunting.
The trick is to get behind them with someone in front of them as a distraction.
Pweeze be werry werry quiet...........
Once you get one lined up you move in VERY carefully.

Then you pounce.

Nothing to it really. The first aid station is just down the street.
Al Decided snake grabbing was not for him so he went after something less dangerous. A Road Runner.
After Wickenburg we headed for the Glendale airport to see the WWII planes.
What did we see as we left town??
DESERT
And... A Bar. No fancy name for this guy.
We finally made it to Glendale.
This is a B-17 Also known as the Flying Fortress

The ball turret in the belly. You needed to be really small to fight from that position.
 Radio / top turret position

Bomb Bay
 Cockpit
1200 HP engine. There were 4
Left waist 50 Cal machine gun
Bombardier / nose gunner position. During the bomb run the bombardier sat in that chair and looked through the top secret Norden Bomb site. It was said (incorrectly) that it would put a bomb into a pickle barrel from 10,000 feet.
 Right waist 50 cal
Al's son Carl by the twin 50 Cal tail guns
After the B-17 came the B-24 Liberator
 Nose gunner / bombardier position
Testing the left waist 50 Cal

 The famous Norden Bomb Site
 Ball turret in the belly
Bomb Bay. The yellow things are oxygen tanks. These planes flew well above 10,000 feet and the crew needed oxygen above that altitude.
Looking down the barrel of the right waist 50 Cal at Carl and Al
Then.......... My favorite............ The P-51 Mustang
 The cocpit
For a measly $2,200.00 for 1/2 an hour you can go up and fly it.
I checked.... Once clear of the ground after take-off you be able to take the controls and fly this bird.
I called Sandi but she said there were more important things to spend money on........ :-(
Here are some SHORT videos shot mostly because of the songs that were playing on the radio.

That's it for today.
Al and I are trying to get to the Arizona Meteor Crater but there is SNOW up that-a-way.
