We took off up route 101 to route 17 north.
Here are photos I took along the way.
There aren't enough cactus around but what you have to buy them???
This i took for my Sandi
After following route 17 for a while you climb to about 5000 feet to what I call the high plains.
The area is just north of "Horse Thief Pass".
This is beautiful grass land.
Continuing along on 17 north you come to Elk country at 6000 feet.
Hey... That is where we are headed
See the snow on the mountain???
GO EAST GEORGE!!!!!
From route 17 we swing onto route 40 east and continue through northern Arizona leaving the snow behind us. (look in the mirror)
BIG indians here
Cows.. I FINALLY see cows
See that high ridge in the distance? That is the rim of a Meteor Crater.
We stopped and did the tourist thing.
Al is supposed to look like he is in the bottom of the crater
Remember this photo
The hole is 1700 feet deep and three quarters of a mile across.
"Blistered" rock from the blast
I jumped way up to get this view
Next to the bottom right of the fence is the same size astronaut and flag in the photo I told you to remember. It is a LONG way down.
That was a big mother rock!!!
Moving right along we headed for New Mexico.
BUT.......
Guess where we stopped first???
"Standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona".. The band Eagles made this town famous.
Here is a video I shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63hUJ2wI0DI&feature=youtu.be
Do you know what famous route goes through Winslow??
See that car on my right?? He had to stop while Al and I posed. He was NOT mad and waved after the photo.
Do you what else is close to Winslow???
Radiator Springs!!!!
We continued toward New Mexico and passed a crew "working on the rail road"
We made it!!!!!!!
This grassland is called "Buffalo Range"
The Continental Divide. Water now flows south and east
New Mexico looks like Arizona
This train went on forever. MILES long
